E-004491-18
Question for written answer E-004491-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Beata Gosiewska (ECR)

Subject:  Distributing the EU budget (2021-2027) while taking into account the new statistical classification of territorial units in Europe
 Answer in writing

The Commission has suggested that the EU budget (2021‐2027) should be distributed on the basis of economic data for the period between 2014 and 2016.

This approach is really unfair and discriminates against a number of Polish regions that are less developed (for example in the case of Mazowieckie voivodship this includes the entire area excluding the Warsaw-Capital NUTS 2 region).

If these differences are ignored, the objective of the European Union, which is to strengthen its economic, social and territorial cohesion, cannot be achieved. The areas that are in genuine need of intervention will not receive the funding needed to attain the European Union’s average GDP in the short term. Therefore, disparities between regions will increase.

1. Why did the Commission fail to take account of the new statistical classification of territorial units in Europe with respect to the allocation of funds from the EU budget after 2020?

2. Does the Commission plan to take any action in order to take account of the new statistical classification of territorial units in Europe and use it as a criterion when developing the map of EU support for the period between 2021 and 2027, taking equitable distribution into consideration?
