E-004650/2018(ASW)
Answer given by Mr Hogan on behalf of the European Commission
Question reference: E-004650/2018

Actions related to urban agriculture such as COST-Action Urban Agriculture Europe which aimed at stimulating private and public activities in urban agriculture projects and planning were already supported in the past through the agricultural European Innovation Partnership (EIP-AGRI).

Also, other initiatives related to urban agriculture have been financed within the framework of EU support, including Erasmus+, Horizon2020, European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Under ERDF, there are examples of Urban Innovative Actions projects where urban agriculture is a vehicle to fight poverty and improve jobs and skills in the local economy. Furthermore, some partnerships created in the framework of the Urban Agenda for the EU have also identified the issue of nature-based solutions and adaptation to climate change in their action plans(1).

Finally, FOOD 2030(2) welcomes urban farming as part of its priority to empower communities through innovation.
