Further to the exchanges with Spain as regards the waste management plans, the Commission decided to refer Spain to the Court on 7 June 2018. The assessment of any submission by Spain after that date will take place in the framework of the procedure before the Court.

The latest revision of the Waste Framework Directive[1] will require some revisions to the existing waste management plans to take account of new recycling and landfill targets as well as additional new requirements on separate collection and the mandatory contents of the plans.

The Member States will be obliged to review their plans to reflect these new requirements by the time of transposition of the directive which is due in July 2020.
