E-005598/2018(ASW)

Answer given by Ms Creţu on behalf of the European Commission

The first phase of the project ‘Construction and supply of equipment for the multifunctional centre for alcoholics and drug addicts at the general hospital of Ioannina “G. Hatzikosta”’ was finalised on 15 February 2017 with a total budget of EUR 8 230 402. This project belongs to the Operational Programme ‘Thessalia-Sterea Ellada-Epirus 2007-2013’ and consists of the construction of the new hospital building and the supply and installation of office and electronic equipment.

Phase B of the project with a total budget of EUR 642 382 was incorporated in the Operational Programme ‘Epirus 2014-2020’ on 4 August 2016 as a phased project. This project consists of the upgrade of the energy substation for the hospital and the supply and installation of medical equipment. Several issues related to the tendering of this project caused delays. It is now expected to be completed by 31 August 2019.

In accordance with the shared management principle governing the European Structural and Investment Funds, project assessment and selection fall under the remit of Member States. Therefore, the Commission is not directly informed about individual calls or procedures, unless they concern major projects pursuant to the relevant regulations. Nevertheless, the Commission is monitoring the progress of the operation and is encouraging the managing authority of the programme to take all necessary measures to ensure its rapid completion.
