Question for written answer E-005838-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Liadh Ní Riada (GUE/NGL)

Subject:  Compensation for the owners of fishing vessels falsely certified as stable prior to purchase
 Answer in writing

Can the Commission explain whether the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF), State aid or any other programme can be used by a Member State as aid or as compensation for a fishing vessel owner who purchased, in another Member State, a fishing vessel between 15 and 24 metres in length that came with an official certification from the issuer stating incorrectly that the vessel was stable?

Can the Commission also clarify whether the purchaser of the vessel, upon realisation that it was unsafe owing to a design flaw or latent defect, contrary to what the stability certificate had suggested, should be permitted compensation for modifying the vessel to make it stable and safe for crew members and fishing activities?
