Question for written answer E-005845-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Izaskun Bilbao Barandica (ALDE)

Subject:  Possible inclusion of salt on the list of agri-food products eligible to be labelled as organic

Regulation (EU) 2018/848 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 May 2018 on organic production and labelling of organic products and repealing Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 provides for the extension of the scope of the regulation, with the inclusion of new products such as salt.

This new Regulation shall enter into force on 1 January 2021. Between now and then the specific implementing regulations of Regulation 2018/848 shall be debated and drawn up in Brussels.

Has the Commission taken any steps regarding the inclusion of salt on the list of products eligible to be labelled as organic?

If so, under which conditions could a type of salt be labelled as an organic product?
