Question for written answer E-005975-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Deirdre Clune (PPE)

Subject:  Recycling of packaging waste in Ireland
 Answer in writing

A recent report from Repak, a company established to address the collection and recycling of packaging waste in Ireland, found that the amount of packaging waste generated from online retail sales is set to grow by 34% this year. Many of these online sales are generated from outside the Member States, where retailers face no obligation to contribute to costs under the producer responsibility requirements of the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive.

This problem is growing and will continue to do so as the EU advances online strategies. Can the Commission provide Member States with a solution?
