Initiatives to support Moldovan children

Question for written answer E-006087-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Stefano Maullu (PPE)

Moldova is one of the countries most affected by labour emigration, and around 210 000 Moldovans live and work within the EU; often, they are forced to leave their children in their homeland.

The children who remain in Moldova may encounter problems, including the risk of a general lack of care in terms of their physical and mental health.

Italy is one of the EU Member States most affected by Moldovan labour migration.

In light of the above, can the Commission say whether it intends to take the lead on initiatives aimed at supporting Moldovan children who have been left without one or both parents as a result of their working conditions?
