In Manduria, in the Li Cicci district, there is an abandoned municipal solid waste (MSW) landfill site. In June 1998, the communal administration awarded a contract for the completion and management of the landfill site, entrusting the service to a temporary association of companies (associazione temporanea di imprese, ATI), comprised of Ecoambiente srl, Diseco Srl and Salvatore Matarrese SpA. This contract stipulated that, once full, the ATI had to undertake post-management work to decontaminate the area.
Three months after the contract was agreed, the companies handed over management of the landfill site to Mandeco Scarl. By means of a decision of the Region of Puglia on 11 November 2003, a project was approved to construct a landfill gas electricity generation plant. The facility, managed by Marco Polo Engineering Srl, remained active until June 2008.
In order to secure the landfill site, the following funds were granted:
EUR 1 038 625.80 — PUGLIA OP ERDF 2007/2013[1]
EUR 1 153 769.01 — PUGLIA COHESION ACTION PLAN 2007/2013[2]
EUR 1 500 000.00 — PUGLIA ROP ERDF 2014/2020 Pillar VI-Action 6.2[3]
Can the Commission confirm:
- 1.The current status of the projects described above?
- 2.The regularity of the ERDF 2014/2020 funding, taking into account the funding granted through ERDF 2007/2013 and the COHESION ACTION PLAN 2007/2013?
- 3.Compliance with Directive 1999/31/EC?
