Question for written answer E-006307-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Deirdre Clune (PPE)

Subject:  Ireland — Bankruptcy of Alpha Insurance
 Answer in writing

It is estimated that 50 000 drivers in Ireland had to obtain alternative insurance cover when Danish insurer Qudos went into liquidation earlier this month and the bankruptcy of Danish-regulated Alpha Insurance has left hundreds of Irish homeowners without insurance cover.

Can the Commission outline what options are open to these customers, who purchased insurance covering the single market, and what steps can be taken to protect Irish consumers from a repeat of such a scenario?
