It has been revealed in the press that Bulgaria has been positively trafficking in naturalisations. Over 10 years, more than 115 000 people have fraudulently been issued with Bulgarian passports, entitling them to travel freely within the territory of the European Union.

In view of the potential threat posed by this scandal in the context of the migration and terrorism crises, and also in view of the prospect of Bulgaria’s accession to Schengen, to which I am resolutely opposed:

• —What action will the Commission take in response to the revelation of this scandal?
• —What is the Commission’s position regarding the admission of Bulgaria to the Schengen area?
