Question for written answer E-000013-19
to the Commission
Rule 130
Barbara Kappel (ENF)

 Subject:  Artificial intelligence (AI)
 Answer in writing

The Commission has launched a legislative initiative to create a common European framework for artificial intelligence and robotics. It covers technological, ethical, legal and socioeconomic aspects of the latest technical developments in the field.

The EU’s research and industrial capacity needs to be strengthened, and technical solutions in the area of artificial intelligence and robotics must be placed in the service of Europe’s citizens and of the economy.

1. Does the Commission have any plans and strategies to prevent a monopoly in the area of artificial intelligence, where data and scalability play an important role?

2. Are there any plans for Commission programmes aimed at attracting AI talent to Europe and making sure it stays?
