E-000084/2019(ASW)
Answer given by Vice-President Mogherini on behalf of the European Commission
Question reference: E-000084/2019

The Commission is aware of the situation of religious minorities which, together with freedom of religion and belief, is one of the dimensions of the fundamental freedoms that the EU discusses regularly with the Algerian authorities in the annual human rights dialogue, as well as in ad hoc meetings.

Regretfully, a number of churches have been subject to controls and closures; however, some were also reopened in 2018. The EU will continue to monitor the situation.
