Question for written answer E-000102-19
to the Commission
Rule 130
Stanisław Ożóg (ECR) , Valdemar Tomaševski (ECR)

Subject:  Increase in the incidence of measles
 Answer in writing

In recent months, the media have often provided information about the increase in the onset of measles in countries neighbouring the EU, including in Ukraine. In Poland, for example, a large percentage of the cases of measles is found in non-Polish nationals. The press in Italy and Romania have also written about the rise in the onset of measles.

In connection with the above, can the Commission say:
1. Has the number of measles cases recently increased in the EU, and what measures have been taken to inform the public about the threat posed by the existence of an epidemiological risk in the EU's neighbouring regions?
2. Is it reasonable to introduce procedures related to prevention and treatment for travellers to countries neighbouring the EU, including requirements related to the health of people entering the country?
