Parliamentary questions

31 January 2019
Question for written answer E-000582-19
to the Commission (Vice-President/High Representative)
Rule 130
Monika Beňová (S&D)

 Subject:  VP/HR — Venezuela's interim president
 Answer in writing

The political situation in Venezuela is worsening by the day. A new self-styled leader, citing the constitution, has declared himself the interim president, while President Maduro at the same time maintains his grip on power. The European Parliament adopted a resolution on 31 January 2019 calling for an end to this increasingly unstable situation and calling on the Member States to recognise Juan Guaidó as the legitimate interim president. President Tajani has declared his support for Mr Guaidó as Venezuela’s legitimate leader.

Is the VP/HR of the view that Juan Guaidó has become interim president of Venezuela in a legitimate manner?

What is the official position of the VP/HR on the mandate of Juan Guaidó?

Is the VP/HR ready to recognise Juan Guaidó as the legitimate leader of Venezuela?
