Parliamentary questions

E-000928-19
Question for written answer E-000928-19
to the Commission
Rule 130
Marietje Schaake (ALDE)

Subject:  College of Europe in receipt of funding from the Saudi Government for lobbying practices
 Answer in writing

A recent news report in the EU Observer claimed that the College of Europe, which is principally funded by the Commission, was paid by the Saudi Government to set up private meetings on 19 February 2019 between Saudi ambassadors, EU officials and MEPs ‘to discuss current issues in the relations between the EU and the Saudi Government’(1).

Does the Commission find this practice by the College of Europe to be acceptable?

Should the College of Europe be asked to join the transparency register in order to continue facilitating such meetings?

Will the Commission reassess its funding of the College of Europe given that it appears to have a wide variety of other revenue streams?
