E-001139-19
Question for written answer E-001139-19
to the Commission
Rule 130
Ramon Tremosa i Balcells (ALDE)

Subject:  Facebook's failed attempts at censorship
 Answer in writing

According to news reports(1), Facebook employees attempt to filter content and censor fake news, disturbing posts or misleading information(2).

Employees in charge of filtering such posts and censoring any in breach the company’s rules(3) are exposed over long hours to a number of disturbing images, videos and texts . The content is related to bullying and insults to groups such as women, other nationalities and minorities.

Workers have just 30 seconds per filter and if they do not correctly assess 98% of the content that they see, they may not even be entitled to their bonus.

1. Does the Commission have an opinion on this regard?

2. What measures will it take to implement or make incentivise solutions for this ‘too-big-to-rule’ social network?
