Question for written answer E-001617-19
to the Commission
Rule 130
Francis Zammit Dimech (PPE)

Subject:  Assistance through the EU Solidarity Fund following storm in Malta and Gozo
 Answer in writing

According to the Malta Insurance Association, the damage caused by the storm that battered Malta and Gozo in February 2019 amounts to EUR 9 million. Those who have been heavily impacted include fishermen, farmers and small businesses. The impact on public infrastructure has also been considerable.

While noting the 12-week period available for Member States to apply to the Commission for payments from the European Union Solidarity Fund, the Commission is asked to state whether any progress has been made to enable Malta to benefit from the fund, whether any timeline for proceedings has been set, and whether it has made any preliminary analysis of the situation?
