E-001653/2019(ASW)
Answer given by Mr Vella on behalf of the European Commission
Question reference: E-001653/2019

The Commission fully agrees on the need for policy coherence in improving ocean governance. This objective is pursued through a range of measures within existing institutional structures.

In the Commission, the Commissioner responsible for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries works closely with other Commissioners, as well as the relevant Commission services and decentralised agencies with a view to implement fully the Commission’s policy on ocean governance.

The Commission is currently not contemplating putting forward a proposal for the creation of a European Oceans Agency.
