Disposal of nuclear and radioactive waste on the border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia

Question for written answer E-001659-19
to the Commission
Rule 130
Jasenko Selimovic (ALDE)

The Republic of Croatia intends to dispose of nuclear and radioactive waste near the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, this would affect 230 000 residents in the area of the Una river. This waste is a potential threat to the environment and the health of the residents of nearby Bosnian municipalities, and the issue is creating tensions between the country and Croatia.

Given that Bosnia and Hercegovina is a potential candidate country and Croatia is an EU Member State, how does the Commission intend to address this problem?
