E-001700-19
Question for written answer E-001700-19
to the Commission
Rule 130
Mara Bizzotto (ENF)

Subject:  Slump in consumer spending and measures to support fruit and vegetable exports

The consumption of fruit and vegetables in Europe has been stagnating for several years. The embargo by Russia, which before 2014 imported fruit and vegetables from the EU to the tune of some EUR 2.3 billion, has had a severe impact on producers. We therefore need to increase our exports to third countries which is often impossible due to phytosanitary barriers.

In view of the above, can the Commission answer the following questions:
1. What measures does it intend to take to facilitate negotiations with third countries, in order to open up markets?
2. What measures does it intend to take to increase the consumption of fruit and vegetables produced in Italy and Europe?
3. What measures will it take to put an end to the Russian embargo?
