E-001899/2019(ASW)
Answer given by Mr Navracsics on behalf of the European Commission
Question reference: E-001899/2019

In the next multiannual financial framework, the Commission does not specifically foresee mentoring by supporting the development of a common scientific basis for innovation tools(1). As regards supporting the development of a common scientific basis for research and innovation tools in the fields of education and training, the Horizon 2020 programme finances a certain number of key research projects with this dimension(2). The same approach to education and training research will be continued under the future Horizon Europe programme.

With a view to ensuring the high quality of non-formal learning activities supported by the Erasmus+ programme and the European Solidarity Corps, the necessary support needs to be provided to the young participants. Such support can also take the form of mentoring. In particular in long-term activities such as volunteering, the role of mentors is crucial. The programme also allows for extra funding for reinforced mentorship in case young participants come from disadvantaged backgrounds. The programmes offer quality and support measures, such as transnational training and networking activities, to further increase the quality of mentoring provided to young people.
