E-002090/2019(ASW)
Answer given by Vice-President Mogherini on behalf of the European Commission
Question reference: E-002090/2019

The European Commission is aware that the Ukrainian Member of Parliament Ihor Mosiychuk has submitted a draft resolution to ask the President of Ukraine to consider awarding the title of ‘Hero of Ukraine’ to Yaroslav Stetskó.

Given that this has not been discussed so far in the Verkhovna Rada, no decision as to a potential follow-up has been made by the EU.

In general, the EU-Ukraine relations are based on the Association Agreement(1), which has a strong emphasis on common values, namely respect for democratic principles, the rule of law, good governance, human rights and fundamental freedoms.

The Commission is committed to safeguarding democratic values and fostering the thriving of open and diverse societies.
