Question for written answer E-002091-19
to the Commission (Vice-President/High Representative)
Rule 130
Javier Couso Permuy (GUE/NGL)

Subject:  VP/HR — Israeli interference in Syria
 Answer in writing

The Permanent Representative of Syria to the United Nations, Bashar Jaafari, has denounced the bombing by Israeli air forces of the Damascus province and their frequent violation of Syrian airspace. Jaafari accused the US and the two EU Member States that are permanent members of the UN Security Council — the UK and France — of supporting Israel’s actions in Syria.

The presence of Israeli aircraft in Syrian airspace may also pose a serious risk both to the other aircraft taking part in combat missions and to civil aircraft, as the two incidents involving Russia in September and December 2018 show.

1. What is the VP/HR’s stance on this issue?

2. Will she urge Israel to put an immediate end to this violation of international treaties and honour Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty?
