Parliamentary question - E-002191/2019(ASW)Parliamentary question
E-002191/2019(ASW)

Answer given by Mr Andriukaitis on behalf of the European Commission

The Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) ensures the flow of information to enable swift reaction when risks to public health are detected in the food chain. The Commission provides updated overview information of RASFF notifications from all countries that are members of the system, including Romania[1].

RASFF members’ competent authorities can update their own lists of agricultural and food products notified in RASFF. However, Romania, like many other countries, uses a different web page to inform consumers about products — whether of national origin or not — which pose a health risk.

As pointed out by the Honourable Member, Romania did not update the 2015 list of existing RASFF notifications regarding Romanian products. However, the responsibility of updating this list falls under of the Romanian authority and not the Commission, as establishing such a list is not required by EC law.
