Question for written answer E-002494-19
to the Commission (Vice-President/High Representative)
Rule 138
Matt Carthy (GUE/NGL)

Subject:  VP/HR — Moroccan police oppression in Western Sahara

On 20 July in Western Sahara, Moroccan police deliberately drove over a young woman, Sabah Azman, and killed her. Violent oppression by police left large numbers of protesters injured, and many were subsequently arbitrarily detained.

— Will the VP/HR condemn the presence of Moroccan military forces in Western Sahara and support the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination?

— Will the VP/HR ensure that the judgment of the European Court of Justice is upheld and that EU association agreements with Morocco shall not include the Western Sahara’s territory, seas, or products within their scope?
