Subject:  Provocative action taken by Turkey and its pseudo-state with regard to Famagusta
 Answer in writing
 Answer in writing

Turkey’s vassal administration in occupied Cyprus has been attempting to bring the closed-off city of Famagusta under its own ‘administration’ and to colonise it.

These actions are an infringement of the United Nations resolutions and decisions that have been taken with regards to the city.

The return of Varosha to its lawful inhabitants under UN administration was envisaged by UN Security Council Resolutions 550 (1984) and 789 (1992) and adopted in the Committee on Petitions Report of 17 July 2008, the European Parliament Declaration of 14 February 2012 and the latest European Parliament Resolution of 6 July 2017. Moreover, the 1979 High Level Agreement signed by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Spyros Kyprianou, and the Turkish Cypriot leader, Rauf Denktas, makes explicit reference to the return of the town to its lawful inhabitants.

In view of the above, will the Commission say:
1. Is it aware of the provocative actions being carried out by Turkey and the occupying regime at a time when efforts are being made to reopen negotiations?
2. What action is it planning to take in response to these unlawful claims on Famagusta?
