Question reference: E-002863/2019

It is not for the Council to interpret legal provisions of Union law.

Pursuant to Article 23(2) of the Agreement between the European Union and the United States of America on the processing and transfer of Financial Messaging Data from the European Union to the United States for the purposes of the Terrorist Finance Tracking Program (2010/412/EU), the Agreement is automatically extended every year unless one of the Parties notifies the other, at least six months in advance, of its intention not to extend. According to the latest Commission report on the joint review of the implementation of the Agreement, the Commission is satisfied that the Agreement and its safeguards and controls are properly implemented(1).
