Question for written answer E-003020-19
to the Commission
Rule 138
Stelios Kympouropoulos (PPE)

Subject:  Funding of municipalities, associations of municipalities, social enterprises and non-profit organisations for shelters for strays

In Greece, the end of summer every year sees a rapid increase in number of stray animals. Strays are vulnerable to disease, malnutrition, thirst and human factors, and they may also pose a threat to humans for the above reasons. Greece has also incorporated the European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals with Law 2017/1992. In view of the European Parliament resolution of 4 July 2012 on the European Union Strategy for the Protection and Welfare of Animals 2012‐2015 (2012/2043 (INI)), will the Commission say:

What amount of EU funding has been allocated to Member States, in particular Greece, for the period 2012-2015 for the establishment and operation of shelters for strays?

Will the Commission announce a call for funding the establishment and operation of stray shelters involving eligible bodies, municipalities, associations of municipalities, social enterprises and non-profit organisations?

Is there a body responsible for monitoring the conditions under which and the manner in which shelters operate within the EU?
