Parliamentary questions
PDF 31kWORD 15k
29 November 2019
Answer given by Ms Malmström
on behalf of the European Commission
Question reference: E-003058/2019

The Commission regrets the decision of the United States (US) to impose, as of 18 October 2019, additional tariffs of 10% on aircraft products and of 25% on a range of agricultural exports from EU Member States in the context of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) dispute settlement case on aircraft subsidies.

The Commission remains convinced that dialogue should prevail in this case and in the future between major partners such as the EU and the US, and is committed to finding a negotiated and balanced solution to resolve this long-standing WTO dispute.

To this end, the European Union has shared concrete proposals with the US for a new regime on aircraft subsidies. So far, the US has not engaged on them in substance, but the EU’s readiness to find a fair negotiated settlement remains unchanged and the EU will continue to use all available channels to secure the engagement of the US.
