Question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 138
Isabel Benjumea Benjumea
 Answer in writing
Subject: Use of the EU’s Solidarity Fund for the floods in Murcia

Between 12 and 15 September 2019, as much as 450 l/m² of rain fell in eastern Spain. The resulting floods had a devastating effect, killing six people and causing damage estimated at EUR 590 774 720. The purpose of the EU’s Solidarity Fund is to provide financial support in situations such as the above.

Has the Commission received a file from Spain about the floods in Murcia?

Given the dire straits that the people affected are in, and the devastating effects of the floods on people’s everyday lives and businesses, has the Commission been able to look at the file yet?

In the light of the effects of the floods and in line with the Solidarity Fund Regulation, could the areas affected be considered civil protection disaster areas?
