Subject: Request for Spanish Government to take responsibility for its management of Ebola case

The recent case of a nurse infected with the Ebola virus in Madrid is a worrying demonstration of political negligence in the Spanish Government’s handling of the entire process. Following complaints from health care workers, who denounce the lack of resources and training provided by the authorities, we demand that the EU enforce Article 35 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, on the protection of health, which recognises the right to health care under the conditions established by national laws and practices.

Will the EU allow the ongoing dismantling of the public health care system, which is a direct consequence of the economic policies imposed by the EU Troika (the effects of which are apparent in this crisis), and the resulting transgression of the fundamental right of every citizen and worker to have their health protected?

Will the EU carry out an investigation to establish political responsibilities in relation to this crisis?
