Question for oral answer O-000145/2016
to the Commission
Rule 128
Mady Delvaux, on behalf of the Committee on Legal Affairs

Subject: Recognising the content of civil status documents
 Answer in plenary

6 July 2016 saw the signing of Regulation (EU) 2016/1191 on promoting the free movement of citizens by simplifying the requirements for presenting certain public documents in the European Union. At the time the Commission made the proposal for this regulation, a second proposal was envisaged which was to provide for the recognition of the content of civil status documents, including with reference to registered partnerships. During the hearing prior to her appointment, Commissioner Jourová stated that preparatory work had already started in the Commission services with the launching of a study to examine all relevant issues.

Does the Commission still intend to make such a proposal on the recognition of the content of civil status documents? If so, when will the outcome of the study and/or impact assessment be available? More importantly, when can Parliament expect this proposal to be presented? Does the Commission still intend to include registered partnerships in its scope? If not, what is the reason for this change of plan?
