Subject:  Health and safety policy concerning female migrants and asylum-seekers in refugee camps
 Answer in writing

On 8 January 2015, the association ‘Gynécologie sans frontières’, and the president and members of the ‘Institut maçonnique européen’ visited the refugee camps in northern France. The number of residents in these camps has increased tenfold in a matter of months. Living conditions are particularly harsh for women, both in terms of food and security.

The situation regarding their health is, however, particularly alarming: women living in precarious and totally unsanitary conditions, with hygiene becoming critical, especially for pregnant women, with very little access to the very few toilets and no electricity. There is an urgent need to install accommodation and set up gender-segregated health, advisory and emergency services with a sufficient amount of suitable equipment.

While Europe's civil society and an associations are mobilising en masse to address to the health emergency concerning refugees, including women and asylum-seekers, does the Commission intend to provide financial and material support to organisations working on the ground in Europe alleviate this humanitarian catastrophe?
