Parliamentary questions

P-007691-16
Question for written answer P-007691-16
to the Commission
Rule 130
Fernando Ruas (PPE)

Subject:  PGI certification for Folar de Valpaços
 Answer in writing

The Ministry of Agriculture and the Sea sent the Commission, by order of the Minister of 29 September 2015, the application for Folar de Valpaços to be granted protected geographical indication (PGI) status. The competent Commission services received the application on 23 October 2015 (listed under the file number PT/PGI/0005/01392).

In its answer of 12 May 2016 to a question I tabled in March 2016, the Commission stated that the application was ‘currently under examination by the Commission services’ and that ‘within this context, a letter suggesting minor drafting amendments and requesting slight clarifications has been sent to the Member State concerned on 5 April 2016’.

In this light, and given that a ‘normal’ procedure (without opposition or requests for additional clarification) should last a maximum of nine months (Article 50(1) and Article 51(1) of Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012), can the Commission say whether the Portuguese Government has now responded to the Commission’s request? If so, when is the application expected to be published?
