Subject:  EU-Mercosur trade negotiations and raw cane sugar
 Answer in writing

Can the Commission clarify the status of raw cane sugar in the EU-Mercosur free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations? It is very important that a balanced and mutually beneficial tariff rate quota (TRQ) for raw cane sugar is included in any final deal with Mercosur countries.

Given that the Commission forecasts a reduction in EU imports of sugar in the short term, has it carried out an analysis as to how greater access to raw cane sugar through FTAs, such as those with Mercosur and Mexico, could make up that shortfall?
