Question for written answer P-000103-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Francisco José Millán Mon (PPE)

Subject:  State of play in negotiations on the EU-Mercosur agreement
 Answer in writing

It was not possible to conclude negotiations on the free trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur during 2017. After the last round of negotiations at the start of December, and attempts to reach an agreement during the 11th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), held on 11-14 December in Buenos Aires, the Commissioner said the parties were very close to an agreement.

1. What are the main obstacles that have prevented negotiations from being concluded?

2. When is the next round of negotiations scheduled to take place?

3. Does the Commission believe a political agreement can be reached during the first quarter of 2018?
