Question for written answer P-000183-18
to the Commission (Vice-President/High Representative)
Rule 130
Linda McAvan (S&D)

Subject:  VP/HR — Detention of 16-year-old Palestinian activist Ahed Tamimi
 Answer in writing

What action does the Vice-President of the Commission/High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy intend to take following the unlawful transfer of 16-year-old Ms Ahed Tamimi from the West Bank to a prison in Israel following her arrest on 19 December 2017, in violation of Article 76 of the Fourth Geneva Convention and Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court?

According to official data released by the Israeli Prison Service (IPS), the majority of Palestinian child detainees are transferred out of the West Bank to prisons in Israel, which amounts to a war crime under the Fourth Geneva Convention. According to the IPS, in November 2017 51% of child detainees had been unlawfully transferred(1). In December 2017, Ahed Tamimi was one of these children.

Can the VP/HR please provide an update on what action will be taken on this issue and confirm what support the EU can give to Ms Tamimi and her family?
