P-001165-18
Question for written answer P-001165-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
John Flack (ECR)

Subject:  Protection of animals used for the testing of cosmetic chemicals as laid down in Directive 2010/63/EU
 Answer in writing

I would like to congratulate the Commission for its commitment to promoting the development and implementation of alternative approaches to cosmetic testing on animals.

What concrete steps are being taken to encourage these alternative approaches?

I have noted that the ban does not apply to ecotox testing or to worker safety tests and wondered why that was. Could the Commission explain the reasons for limiting the ban so that it applies only to cosmetic products and their chemical ingredients?

How committed is the Commission to phasing out animal testing as highlighted in its press release of 3 June 2015? Which Member States have been the most responsive to this proposal?
