Answer given by Mr Moedas on behalf of the European Commission
31.7.2018
The project SABANA[1], which is funded by the Horizon 2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (2014-2020), has provided information on the intended location of the demonstration plant, as reflected in Annex 1 of the grant agreement. According to the information provided, the plant is to be located on a plot of land close to the University of Almeria. The Research Executive Agency (REA), who is managing the grant of the project, has no influence on the choice of the location.
Once the Commission has signed the grant agreement for a project selected under Horizon 2020, it is up to the consortium to implement the project, do all required impact assessments and get the necessary permits in line with EU and national laws and report to the Commission about its progress. Accordingly, the first reporting is normally done after 18 months.
It is up to the consortium to find alternative sites if necessary.
