Question for written answer P-004169-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Nikolaos Chountis (GUE/NGL)

Subject:  Solidarity with those affected by the deadly fires in Eastern Attica

Attica has once again been devastated by huge fires, resulting in scores of confirmed deaths and incalculable material destruction within the urban fabric. Hundreds of people have also been injured or are still missing.

Top Commission officials have recognised the magnitude of these losses and material destruction and stressed the need for practical solidarity with Greece.

Will the Commission say:

What immediate measures does it intend to take to give practical support to and express solidarity with those affected by the massive destruction?

What possibilities are provided for under EC law — and under which conditions — to help those affected and the devastated areas?
