P-005042-18
Question for written answer P-005042-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Nigel Farage (EFDD)

Subject:  Protecting the integrity of the Single Market and Customs Union by ‘hard borders’
 Answer in writing

I note the proposed inclusion in the EU’s customs territory of two Italian enclaves located within Switzerland (namely the Italian municipality of Campione d’Italia and the Italian waters of Lake Lugano) (COM(2018)0261).

As Switzerland is neither fully in the Single Market nor part of the EU’s Customs Union, and applies a different VAT system, will the Commission require a ‘hard border’ between these Italian enclaves and Switzerland as it has threatened for Northern Ireland post Brexit?
