Question for written answer P-005669-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Liadh Ní Riada (GUE/NGL)

 Subject:  Gender-responsive budgeting
 Answer in writing

The EU has committed to gender equality, as expressed in Article 3 TEU and Article 8 TFEU.

Furthermore, the joint declaration of Parliament, the Council and the Commission attached to the 2014-2020 multiannual financial framework commits the three institutions to ‘integrating, as appropriate, gender-responsive elements in the EU budget’.

Gender budgeting is one of the key strategies available to further mainstream gender. Gender budgeting is needed to ensure gender equality by focusing on how public resources are allocated.

In light of that fact that the European Council in 2015 called for ‘gender-responsive policies […]’ including in budgeting (26 May 2015, 9242/15):

Can the Commission outline the steps it has taken towards incorporating a gender-responsive budgeting approach into the multiannual financial framework for 2021-2027?
