The Italian Government has delivered to the French Government and the Commission the dossier containing the cost-benefit analysis regarding the construction of the Turin-Lyon high-speed railway line, located in the ‘Mediterranean Corridor’ of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
Given that this infrastructure has a European impact, to ensure continuity along the Mediterranean corridor, any unilateral decision by the Italian Government that changes the commitments already made could cause harm not only to neighbouring areas but, in general, to all EU citizens, who would be deprived of vital infrastructure for the growth, development and connectivity of the entire continent.
In view of the above, can the Commission say:
- 1.When the assessment will be made available to the European Parliament, to enable its contents to be considered and, possibly, a parliamentary debate to be held;
- 2.What measures it intends to take to ensure that previous commitments are met and that the European interests of all citizens, not just those of Italians, are respected;
- 3.What the exact amount is of any compensation that could be claimed from the Italian institutions in the event that a unilateral decision should be taken by Italy to cancel the construction of the line?
