Coordination of social security systems

Question for written answer P-001384-19
to the Commission
Rule 130
Vladimír Maňka (S&D)

On 31 December 2013, the Slovak Republic requested an entry in Annex IV to Regulation (EC) No 883/2004 on the coordination of social security systems.

It wasn’t until 2017 when the Slovak Republic received the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Regulation (EC) No 883/2004 on the coordination of social security systems and Regulation (EC) No 987/2009 laying down the procedure for implementing Regulation (EC) No 883/2004 on the coordination of social security systems. This proposal was to include the Slovak Republic in the aforementioned Annex IV.

However, to date, the amendment has not been adopted in the EU. Thus for more than eight years since it submitted its application, the Slovak Republic has been unable to provide its citizens with the free movement and social security benefits of this regulation.

What is the state of play of the legislative process for the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Regulation (EC) No 883/2004 on the coordination of social security systems and Regulation (EC) No 987/2009 laying down the procedure for implementing Regulation (EC) No 883/2004 on the coordination of social security systems, and what obstacles remain to the completion of this legislative process?
