Subject:  Ban on pulse fishing: follow-up
 Answer in writing

On 13 February 2019, agreement was reached on the proposal for a regulation on the conservation of fishery resources and the protection of marine ecosystems through technical measures. The agreed text stipulated that electric pulse trawl fishing was to be banned. However, the information that appeared in the media concerning the agreement was contradictory.

1. How many vessels are permitted to continue pulse trawling until 1 July 2021?

2. How many vessels are permitted to continue pulse trawling after 1 July 2021?

3. Is there any option to engage in pulse trawling as part of research projects after 1 July 2021?
