In its reply to Written Question P-000882/2019, the Commission only expressed its view on the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) question.

The project referred to in my previous question does not deal with the routine maintenance of the canal alone, but also affects aspects that would drastically alter the flows of the tides and the vital balance of the city of Venice and of the whole lagoon.

Indeed, the Ministry of the Environment has already requested that an assessment of environmental implications be added to the EIA and SEA procedures, but the Port Authority, with the agreement of the Veneto Region and the support of the Municipality of Venice, has the firm intention of carrying out the work.

In the light of the above, can the Commission say:

• 1.How it will verify the failure of the Port Authority and the Veneto Region to comply with the Ministry of the Environment’s request to add an assessment of environmental implications to the environmental impact assessment (EIA) as well as the SEA?
