Parliamentary questions

P-002013-19
Question for written answer P-002013-19
to the Commission
Rule 130
Notis Marias (ECR)

Subject:  Ensuring plurality and equal media coverage of the views and actions of the parties represented in European Parliament in the forthcoming European elections
 Answer in writing

Pan-Hellenic public and private TV news media, radio stations in Attica and the online websites of these media are the main sources of information for citizens in Greece.

However, throughout the current parliamentary term these media have systematically and in a harmonised manner failed to equally reflect the views and actions of the Greek parties represented in the European Parliament.

Without equal coverage of the views and actions of the parties represented in the European Parliament, democracy cannot function properly and there can be no fair electoral process.

The lack of equal coverage undermines the possibility of conducting the 2019 European Elections in Greece fairly and equitably.

In view of the above, will the Commission say:

What direct and urgent steps will it take to ensure pluralism and the equal coverage of the views and actions of the parties represented in the European Parliament in the forthcoming European elections by the abovementioned media?
