P-002233-19
Question for written answer P-002233-19
to the Commission
Rule 130
Stelios Kympouropoulos (PPE)

Subject:  New initiatives to tackle climate change

The citizens of my country, and in particular the inhabitants of Chalkidiki, have been left profoundly shaken by yesterday’s catastrophic weather events, which left at least seven people dead and more than 100 injured. Within just a few minutes, severe winds — and even tornadoes — swept through the region.

Extreme weather is a symptom of climate change.

I would therefore like to ask the Commission:
1. Is it planning to take further action, in particular over the course of the new programming period, to help Member States get better prepared for the effects of climate change?
2. Is it planning to increase the funds earmarked for tackling climate change, and to increase the level of funding available through the LIFE programme for flood management and through the EU Structural Funds?
