Question for written answer P-002289-19
to the Commission
Rule 130
Francisco José Millán Mon (PPE)

Subject:  Recurrent problems for the EU fleet in transporting fresh fish from Mauritania

Ever since February, the route from northern Mauritania to Morocco has been closed on numerous occasions. The serious problems this causes have already been raised in my Question E‐001215/2019 and my letter of 6 April 2019, both addressed to Commissioner Vella.

I suggested in my question that a special exception could be made allowing fish to be landed at a port not in Mauritania itself.

In his answer of 15 May 2019 to my letter, the Commissioner referred, inter alia, to the possibility of including this issue in the negotiations on the new fisheries protocol.

Given that this route continues to be closed on a regular basis, what action is the Commission considering?

Have this problem and a possible solution thereto been included in the negotiating directives proposed by the Commission to the Council (COM(2019) 248 final)?
